Arla Foods To Support Local Dairy Production In Bangladesh

Dairy giant Arla Foods has announced that it will support Bangladesh’s dairy cooperative, MilkVita, in its endeavour to develop sustainable dairy production in the country.

Presently, local dairy production in Bangladesh only meets 40% of the total requirement.

The dairy cooperatives recently signed an agreement at the P4G Summit in Copenhagen, which will enable sharing of knowledge about best practices from the Danish dairy sector, in order to improve dairy production quality in Bangladesh.

A Mutually Beneficial Collaboration

The collaboration with Arla will enable MilkVita to strengthen Bangladesh’s cooperative dairy model, drawing on Arla’s expertise to increase the yield per cow.

Arla’s executive vice-president of international, Tim Ørting Jørgensen, said, “The agreement is also a further example of Arla’s commitment to the UN’s sustainable development goals, as we will support the development [of] Bangladesh’s agricultural sector, which, in turn, will strengthen sustainably produced milk and improve the livelihoods of farmers.”

For Arla, the collaboration is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the dairy sector in Bangladesh and identify a potential market for the development of products that cater to local requirements.

Arla’s presence in Bangladesh dates back to 1961, and its DANO milk powder is considered one of the best products in this category in the country.
