Asda Reports Growth In Second Quarter

British retailer Asda, reported a like-for-like increase in net sales of 0.7 per cent for the second quarter, with 3.2 per cent growth in the period, excluding fuel.

Sales through the supermarket chain's online business jumped 22.1 per cent in the quarter.

CEO Andy Clarke attributed the growth to price cuts and an emphasis on product quality, saying "I’m really proud of our performance again this quarter. We have continued to increase our sales and grow ahead of the market."

Parent company Walmart reported growth of 5.7 per cent in the US. (16 Aug)
