Asda To Consult Staff Over Potential Job Cuts

UK supermarket chain Asda is to commence consultations with its staff on a cost-cutting measure that could potentially result in the loss of around 2,500 jobs, reports the Irish Examiner.

Employees involved in petrol sales, bakery departments, back-office operations, and Asda’s George clothing arm are likely to be affected by the shake-up.

The move will include changing employees’ roles and working hours to provide customers with better services, the report said.

The retailer has also said that if it decides to implement the proposed changes, it will work with the affected employees to examine the potential impact of these proposals on their lives.

The Walmart-owned retailer is set to be taken over by Sainsbury’s in a £7.3 billion deal, subject to an ongoing investigation by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
