After the Auchan hypermarket in Russia’s Chelyabunsk closed on March 8, a man walked confidently inside the store around 11pm. Presenting fake ID of the employee of a computer firm that serviced Auchan’s security software, he entered the computer room and deactivated the video camera and electromagnetic locks.
He then used a stick with a hook to reach bags of money in a hatch, designed only for collection. However, the collectors arrived to get the money as the robber was trying to get the bags out of the hatch. They alerted security, but the guards were not able to see the man on the surveillance cameras. During this time, he managed to escape.
The incident was confirmed by the Moscow office of Auchan Russia. The police are appealing for information. (14 Mar)
