Barilla Named Number One In Italy: IRI

Barilla has been named the number one consumer goods company in Italy in terms of turnover, according to IRI research.

IRI ranked the 25 consumer goods companies with the highest sales in Italy in 2018, including companies with a turnover of €300 million or more, reports Investire Oggi.

The rank doesn't include e-commerce sites, the HoReCa sector and home delivery companies.

After Barilla, the second and the third positions are also held by Italian companies, Ferrero and Gruppo Lactalis. The top three has retained the same positions as last year.

There are many other Italian companies in the list, including Gruppo Veronesi, Luigi Lavazza, Gruppo Bauli and Pastificio Rana.

Two companies, Gruppo Granarolo and San Benedetto, are in a lower position compared to the previous year.

IRI's research revealed that the 25 largest consumer goods companies saw an overall drop in revenue of 4.5% last year, compared to the previous year.

According to Roberto Bucaneve, director of Centromarca, large companies' main challenges are linked to the strategies that they have been undertaking to tackle the economic crisis, and are not related to their size.
