Barilla Invests €50 Million To Expand Pedrignano Factory

Italian pasta company Barilla is investing €50 million over 10 years in its Pedrignano factory and distribution centre near Parma.

The investment will be used to expand the warehouse and improve logistics, in order to avoid bottlenecks, director Alessandro Spadini told Il Sole 24 Ore.

Pedrignano is the world's largest dry pasta plant - this year it will produce 330,000 tonnes of the product, which is equivalent to four billion pasta dishes. The plant has 19 production lines, producing 104 types of pasta, 65% of which are exported.

Company Profile

Barilla is celebrating 140 years of operations this year and recently announced that its new brand ambassador in Europe will be Swiss tennis star Roger Federer.

The company has 28 production units, 14 of which are in Italy, and exports its product to over 130 countries with a 2016 turnover of €3.41 billion.

Last year, Barilla opened two new restaurants in Dubai, and the company is now planning to open new establishments in Los Angeles.
