AB InBev-Backed EverGrain To Offer Sustainable, Plant-Based Barley Ingredients

AB InBev has announced the launch of sustainable ingredients company EverGrain, with the aim to transform the use of barley.

EverGrain is backed by the brewing giant, which has previously supported efforts to create more sustainable products.

Circular Economy

The company aims to introduce nutrient-dense protein and fibre barley ingredients in the market.

By producing barley through a circular economy, the company seeks to introduce the ingredient as a sustainable, plant-based product.

CEO of EverGrain, Greg Belt, said its approach will address the "food security and sustainability challenges" faced around the globe.

Plant-Based Products

According to the HealthFocus International (HFI) 2019 Global Report, a quarter of global shoppers consider plant-based foods and beverages an important component in their diets, adding that they will pay a premium for plant-based products.

EverGrain will meet the demand for such products with the backing of Anheuser-Busch InBev, which says it is proud to support the "purpose-driven venture", according to its chief sustainability and procurement officer, Tony Milikin.

EverGrain will bring two of its product lines, EverPro and EverVita, to the market with this launch.

EverPro can be used in plant-based protein products, while EverVita will be included in brands such as Take Two, which offers a barley milk line for boosting nutrition and gut health.
