Rewe Group is enhancing the presence of its Billa banner in central and eastern Europe. The Germany-based retailer is adding more stores to its supermarket division across the region, with plans to add between 50 and 80 new Billa stores to the network each year.
Plans are underway to open eight to 10 stores in Ukraine and 13 in Romania this year, Planet Retail reports. It was previously announced that the supermarket network is also to expand in Russia, with the addition of 10-15 stores.
Billa is “positioning itself as a regional supermarket”, said Janusz Kulik, Rewe International Manager for Eastern Europe, with particular reference to the Czech Republic. (23 Oct)
