Bolton Alimentari Partners With WWF On Sustainable Fishing

Italian canned tuna company Bolton Alimentari has partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to promote sustainable fishing and help safeguard oceans

The two organisations will work together on a four year programme to improve the sustainability of business practices, which will involve different countries and include all of Bolton's production areas and brands.

In particular, the project will focus on investing in the sustainability of Bolton Alimentari’s seafood supply, and increasing transparency and traceability for consumers.

'Huge Opportunity'

"This partnership provides a huge opportunity to influence the way seafood businesses operate and to affect positive change amongst global suppliers," said Alfred Schumm, WWF's director of fisheries.

WWF will support Bolton Alimentari’s efforts to continuously increase its amount of certified sustainable seafood products. The goal for the company is to buy 100% of its tuna from MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified fisheries within the next eight years, or from robust fishery improvement projects aimed at becoming eligible for MSC certification. A similar commitment has also been made for other fish species such as salmon, mackerel and sardines.
