British Sparkling Wine Sales Rocketing In Waitrose

Waitrose has experienced an exponential like-for-like increase in the sales of domestically produced sparkling white wine of 188 per cent, thedrinksbusiness.com reports.

It is estimated that about two per cent of the UK's sparkling wine buying population is opting for homegrown products ahead of prosecco, champagne, cava, or crémants de Bourgogne.

This has occurred partially because of the success Hambledon Classic Cuvée and Nyetimber Classic Cuvée, two of Waitrose's most popular such products, have enjoyed in blind-taste tests, and the reputational boost which followed this.

MW head of wine-buying at Waitrose, Pierpaolo Petrassi, said, “We know that our customers will enjoy celebrating this Christmas and New Year with a glass of English sparkling wine.”

“This year we launched the second vintage of our Leckford Estate Brut, made from grapes grown at our own vineyard in Hampshire, and we have increased the number of bottles made to meet the growing demand.”
