Britvic Plc Partners With Diabetes UK To Support Diabetics

Soft drinks maker Britvic has announced a three-year partnership with Diabetes UK to support the British charity in its initiative to help those affected by the ailment.

Through this partnership, Britvic will support Diabetes UK’s children’s programmes through various initiatives, and the charity will work closely with Britvic employees to help them lead healthier lives.

Around 94% of Britvic’s owned brands – 72% of its total portfolio including PepsiCo brands – in Great Britain are no/low sugar and are below or exempt from the soft drinks industry levy (SDIL), the company said.

In July of this year, the drink manufacturer reported a 3.4% rise in third-quarter revenue, boosted by strong sales of its sugar-free and non-carbonated drinks.

The Initiative

Britvic aims to raise £500,000 (€561,173) for Diabetes UK, through donations and fundraisers, to help children affected by Type 1 diabetes.

Chief executive at Britvic, Simon Litherland, said, "There are an estimated 4.6 million people living with diabetes in the UK today.

"By working in partnership with Diabetes UK and helping to raise funds, we can support Diabetes UK’s vital work to help those living with diabetes and support our own employees to know their risk."

The funds will be used in Diabetes UK’s Make the Grade school packs, and in adding more schools to its list of 'Good Diabetes Care in Schools' award.

Employee Support

Diabetes UK will help around 2,000 Britvic employees and their families to adopt a lifestyle that will cut down the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. It will also support workers affected by diabetes.

Chief executive of Diabetes UK, Chris Askew, said, “We look forward to working alongside Britvic’s workforce to promote, amplify and expand the reach of our vital work, and to inspire people across the UK to help us achieve our shared goal of improving the lives of people with diabetes.”

As a part of the partnership, employees can extend their support to Diabetes UK’s cause through volunteering, and other activities aimed at raising funds.

Britvic is also offering its employees in Great Britain three paid volunteering days, each year, for this purpose.
