Budweiser To Be Brewed With 100% Renewable Energy

Brewing giant AB InBev has announced that it will introduce Budweiser beer that has been brewed with 100% renewable electricity. The brewer will launch the range across the US in spring 2018.

Every Budweiser will be labelled with a renewable-electricity symbol, which forms part of the brand’s commitment to brewing all of its beers with 100% renewable electricity by 2025.

The electricity is sourced from the Thunder Ranch Wind Farm in Oklahoma, which is powered by Enel Green Power.

AB InBev said that switching to renewable electricity in Budweiser’s brewing operations will correspond to taking 48,000 passenger cars off the road every year.

Expansion Plans

AB InBev said the renewable label will roll out to additional markets as Budweiser reaches the target of 100% renewable electricity in its operations.

Budweiser unveiled the label at the World Economic Forum in Davos and invited other brands to adopt the symbol and celebrate renewable electricity as a way of tackling climate change.

The brand is working with a number of NGOs and the consultant firm Accenture to develop a process and guidelines to encourage other brands to adopt the symbol.

The new strategy is in line with parent company AB InBev’s aim to source all purchased electricity from renewable sources.

“To brew the perfect beer, we need the highest-quality natural ingredients,” said Tony Milikin, chief sustainability officer at AB InBev. “This is why we’re working to ensure a thriving, sustainable environment for the next 100 years and beyond.”

“We know that climate change is an important issue for consumers, but they aren’t sure how their everyday actions can make a difference,” said Brian Perkins, global vice-president of Budweiser. “The renewable-electricity symbol can show consumers that their purchasing choices can have a positive impact.”
