McCain Foods Invests In Fiddlehead Technology

Frozen food producer McCain Foods has acquired a minority share of New Brunswick-based data science firm Fiddlehead Technology.

Fiddlehead provides analytics and machine learning solutions aimed at helping food and beverage producers optimise their operations.

McCain made a major investment in the Canadian business in 2017, and continued to work closely with the company, benefiting from the collaboration last year as its operations were affected by COVID-19.

'Instrumental Help'

Jillian Moffatt, chief technology officer of McCain Foods, called the company's work "instrumental in helping McCain drive growth through data analytics," adding that McCain is "proud to be investing in another New Brunswick-born company", where McCain itself was created.

According to Fiddlehead CEO Shawn Carver, the investment ensures the group “will have the talent and resources that we need to help our growing list of customers realise more value from their data".

The company is set to expand its operations, and hopes to hire new data scientists and data engineers at its Moncton office.
