Carlsberg Agrees To Acquire Wernesgrüner Brewery In Germany

The Carlsberg Group has announced that it has agreed with Bitburger Braugruppe to acquire the Wernesgrüner Brewery.

The deal also includes the Wernesgrüner brand in the Vogtland region of Saxony, Germany.

The move will improve the company’s efficiency and flexibility in production and logistics in Germany.

'Stronger Portfolio'

Carlsberg CEO, Cees ’t Hart added, “The acquisition of the Wernesgrüner Brewery will strengthen our position in our core regions of northern and eastern Germany.

“We will be able to offer a stronger portfolio to our customers, and the acquisition will bring considerable benefits in both production and logistics.”

The transaction, expected to close on 1 January 2021, is subject to clearance from competition authorities.

A Modern Brewery

Wernesgrüner brewery is a modern and efficient brewery with a capacity of approximately 1 million hectolitres, Carlsberg added.

In 2019, production volume stood at approximately 0.5 million hectolitres, and revenue amounted to €31 million.
