Carrefour Belgium Cuts Salt In Bread By 25%

Carrefour Belgium has announced that it has reduced salt from its range of breads by 25%, as part of the retail group's 'Act For Food' initiative.

The retailer aims to offer healthy-food options to its customers through this move.

On average, Belgians consume ten grams of salt per day, which is five grams more than the maximum recommended by the WHO, the company reported.

New Composition

The breads do not compromise on taste and are developed using Posidonia liquid salt, which uses a combination of marine minerals from the Spanish island of Formentera.

The salt contains around 8% sodium, which is 32% lower than normal salt.

The retailer also aims to cut the salt content in a number of other product categories, including sauces and prepared dishes.
