French retailer Carrefour is planning to let more customers scan products instore with their smartphones. After a successful implementation of the technology in Ahold’s US operations, retailers worldwide are hoping to avoid large investment in self-scanning devices.
Other retailers such as the Metro Group in Germany, Auchan in France and Albert Heijn in the Netherlands have also already tested the smartphone technology in their stores. (21 Sept)
