Carrefour Italia Receives Multiple Awards For Hypermarkets

Retail group Carrefour has received international awards recognising the sustainability and architecture of two of its hypermarkets in Italy.

Carrefour Italia’s hypermarket in Nichelino, near Turin, received an award for best sustainable shopping centre within the framework of the international SBChallenge, organised by CommONEnergy - a research project funded by the EU.

The project aims to study sustainable solutions from an environmental and social point of view for places of modern consumption.

Meanwhile, Carrefour's hypermarket in Carugate, near Milan, was honoured with the German Design Award, which aims to highlight the most important design projects in each economic sector. The Carugate store came top in the 'Architectural Retail' category.

The hypermarket was the group's first store in Italy, opened in 1972. The retailer says that it recently inaugurated a new business model, which combines tradition and new technologies, providing consumers with a new shopping experience.
