Carrefour Italia Creates New 'Quality' Private-Label Concept

Carrefour Italia has launched Filiera Qualita, a new private-label line dedicated to the 4,700 suppliers that implement sustainable practices.

In a statement, the retailer said that the standards required from producers for this range include antibiotic-free nutrition, attention to animal welfare, biodiversity protection, and a high-quality work environment.

It added that Filiera Qualita is also a platform capable of supporting the economic growth of small local businesses, which, thanks to Carrefour, have access to geographic markets far from their places of origin.

New Deals

Additionally, Carrefour Italia has signed an agreement with meat company Inalca for the supply of beef and veal from Bonifiche Ferraresi, the largest Italian farm for sustainable agricultural land and the only model for sustainable cattle breeding.

A second agreement was signed with Crea-Api, a research organisation for bee-keeping and bacillus cultivation. This will establish a disciplinary framework for the citrus-fruit supply chains currently marketed under the Viversano Carrefour brand.

The aim of both agreements is to reduce the environmental impact of the retailer's operations across the entire supply chain and ensure the quality of both the final product and the production process.

Catania-based MaDi Fruit is one of the first of Carrefour's suppliers to adopt these standards.
