Carrefour Launches First Fully-Automated Drive Outlet In Belgium

Carrefour Belgium has launched a fully-automated Drive facility, the first of its kind in Belgian retail.

The new system is accessible seven days a week, and customers can pay for their shopping using the Bancontact app or with their online banking service.

Service Beyond Stores

Carrefour Belgium announced the new service following a temporary closure of its Mont-Saint-Jean hypermarket, south of Waterloo. It set up an automated Drive outlet in order to continue providing optimum service to shoppers in the region.

The automated outlet features a wall of metal lockers, some of which are refrigerated. It can accommodate nearly 50 orders per day and contain both dry and fresh products.

Customers can visit Carrefour’s website and order from a whole assortment of available products, and upon confirmation of the order, customers can choose between two given time slots for pick-up the next day.

A QR code will be sent to the customer by text, and that code will be scanned and then the customer will pay for the delivery using the Bancontact app. As soon as payment is confirmed the locker(s) will open and a receipt will be provided.
