Carrefour is seeking to open another 200 Carrefour Express stores in Poland each year from next year onwards, through the introduction of a new-look franchise model in the country. The expansion drive, which is to take in both small and large cities, will add extensively to the 60 or so stores currently operated by the French retailer in Poland.
Carrefour's current Express outlets in Poland are all along the major Gdansk-Krakow-Warsaw axis, due to the proximity of stores to warehouses, however, a Carrefour spokesperson said that the company now wanted to improve its logistics operation to enable stores to open across the country. (28 Oct)
