Carrefour Offering Vouchers In Exchange For Donated School Bags

Carrefour France and Belgium have relaunched an anti-waste operation through which shoppers can receive vouchers for Carrefour hypermarkets when they donate old school bags and satchels.

This will be the fifth year the drive has taken place in France, and the third in Belgium. The supermarket chain works in conjunction with cooperatives Relais and Les Petits Riens respectively, so that satchels can be redistributed to disadvantaged families.

“They must still be in usable condition and people can leave a maximum of five bags,” Carrefour France explained. “In exchange, customers will be given €10 vouchers that they can redeem when they spend €50 or more at the start of the new term. The vouchers are valid from 30 June to 6 September 2016 and may be redeemed when customers spend €50 or more on stationery, school leather goods and calculators.”

Last year, Carrefour France amassed 80,000 bags, while its Belgian division collected 4,200.
