Cerealto Announces Purchase Of Pastificio Mediterranea
Spanish food producer Cerealto has announced the purchase of Italian pasta factory Pastificio Mediterranea.
Located in Silvano D'Orba (Alessandria), around 30 kilometers from the port of Genoa, the factory was purchased on a public tender.
Cerealto has committed to maintaining the jobs of all 63 employees at the facility. The agreement also includes the purchase of machines and production lines. In line with its sustainability policy, Cerealto will give priority to the contracting of local suppliers.
With a family tradition of more than 100 years, Pastificio Mediterranea produces high quality pasta. About 70 SKUs are produced at the factory, including pasta varieties based on 100% Italian durum wheat semolina, organic semolina pasta, wholewheat pasta, spelt pasta and khorasan wheat pasta.
Cerealto has large expansion plans in the countries in which it is already present (Italy, France, Austria, the US, Mexico, Chile and countries in Asia and Africa) and the company is also looking to open up new markets.
The formalisation of the purchase of Pastificio Mediterranea corresponds to the company's international expansion strategy in Southern Europe and follows recent acquisitions in Spain and Portugal.
Cerealto has been operating Pastificio Mediterranea since 2013 under a lease agreement with an option to purchase.
