Cherkizovo Ranked Russia's Second-Largest Pork Producer In 2018

Cherkizovo Group has announced that it was ranked as the second-largest pork producer in Russia in 2018, by the National Union of Swine Breeders.

The company has attributed the increase in production to the launch of new pig farms in the Lipetsk, Voronezh and Penza regions.

Meat from the new farms has helped the group to boost production from 212,000 tonnes to 250,000 tonnes, and grow its market share from 5.5% to 6.1%.

Overall Increase In Production

According to estimates by the union, the total slaughter weight of pork production in 2018, across all farms in Russia, reached 3.7 million tonnes, which is equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 5.5%.

Agricultural holdings recorded an 8% growth and gained around 240,000 tonnes, while family farms and household plots recorded a decline of 45,700 tonnes.

Forecast For 2019

In 2019, overall pork production is predicted to grow by another 4%-5%, or 150,000-170,000 tonnes of slaughter weight.

By 2022, the aggregate production will increase by around 900,000 tonnes, to 4.4 million.

It will include agricultural holdings' pork production, which will go up by about 1.1 million tonnes, to about four million tonnes of slaughter weight, when compared with data from 2017.

The investment in taking pork production from almost 2.4 million tonnes in 2017 to 3.6 million tonnes on a live-weight basis will amount to RUB 379 billion (€0.068 billion) by 2022, the union estimated.
