Cider Maker C&C Group Toasts Good Weather, World Cup
Good early summer weather, combined with the World Cup, has led to ‘positive’ trading at cider maker C&C Group, the company said in a trading update.
C&C Group holds its AGM in Dublin today, 5 July.
In the statement, which covers the period from 1 March to the start of July, C&C Group said that ‘trading has been positive across all our key markets, helped by good weather and the World Cup.’
In Scotland, which saw the introduction of Minimum Unit Pricing on 1 May, ‘consumer reaction has been broadly in line with our expectations’, the company added.
In Ireland, good early summer weather has helped Bulmers return to ‘moderate volume growth in the year-to-date’, C&C Group said.
The group also said that it is making progress in terms of integrating the Matthew Clark Bibendum business into its operations, following the acquisition of that business from Conviviality earlier this year.
The group also announced that its longstanding chairman, Sir Brian Stewart, is to step down.
“As announced on 24 May, Sir Brian Stewart will be stepping down after eight years as Chairman from today’s AGM,” said Stephen Glancey, CEO.
“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Board of thanking Sir Brian for his outstanding contribution to the Board and the Company through this period of significant change for the business.
“I also welcome our new Chairman, Stewart Gilliland, who joined the Board as a non-executive Director in 2012 and has extensive industry and sector experience”.
