The Co-operative Membership Grows 40% In Wales

UK retailer The Co-operative has said that it has seen a 40% rise in membership in Wales, since relaunching its membership scheme in September 2016.

The Co-op now boasts more than 300,000 members in Wales.

Members of The Co-op are given a 5% reward when they purchase private label products after swiping their membership card.

As an added incentive, The Co-op donates an additional 1% of the profit from the purchase to local community causes. The Co-op has supported 749 local causes since relaunching the membership scheme, with nearly €1.2 million distributed amongst Welsh organisations.

Other initiatives taken on by The Co-op in Wales include investing €1 million in re-launching its 10,500 sq. store in Llandovery.

The Co-operative also plans on investing in three other locations throughout Wales this summer, and new developments in four other locations by the end of the year.

The Co-op also reported a 20% increase in Welsh lamb sales, as well as a 42% increase in sales of locally produced items.
