Belgian retailer Colruyt Group has announced that it opened its 124th OKay store in the town of Diegem, outside Brussels, on 8 March.
The 'practical local supermarket' offers convenient, inexpensive and easy shopping, the company said.
The new generation store has a 'fresh and modern design' , with broad aisles and high glass walls. There is an in-store bakery, an ample fresh produce selection, and an expansive mix of national, private-label, and discount brands.
The 'Easy Cooking' counter offers ingredients for certain dishes, for customers who are on-the-go. With a space of 650 square metres, it has a staff of 12.
The company said that it strives to ensure its outlets are sustainably built. The Diegem shop has a propane-powered cooling system, which cuts greenhouse gas emission by 90% compared to a synthetic coolant.
The insulation and ventilation systems help reduce loss of heat, with the ventilation system able to recover up to three-quarters of the warmth in the air, and the implementation of LED lighting has also cut energy use by 30%.
