Competiton Laws Force Carrefour Romania To Give Up Three Stores

Carrefour Romania has consented to relinquish three supermarkets in east Romania in relation to its takeover of Billa following notification from the country’s competition authority.

The French grocer will surrender two Carrefour Market stores and a Billa supermarket in order to satisfy competition rules, Romania-Insider.com reports.

Carrefour spent between €95 million and €100 million on 86 Billa supermarkets across Romania at the end of last year.

Carrefour Romania, which is run by a workforce of over 10,000 employees, operates 108 Carrefour Market outlets, 29 hypermarkets, 53 Carrefour Express shops, as well as four Supeco shops.

Its 2015 sales reached 1.39 billion.
