Conad Members See Growth In 2017 Despite Market Challenges

The cooperatives that comprise Italy’s Conad reported increased turnover in 2017, despite increased challenges in the Italian marketplace.

Pac2000A Conad, which is active in the Lazio, Umbria, Campania and Calabria, ended 2017 with a consolidated turnover of €3.01 billion (+6.24% on 2016) and a profit of €90 million. The cooperative (881 members ) confirmed its leadership in the region, with a market share of 23.92% (+1.32%).

In the four regions in which it operates, Pac2000A Conad opened 33 new stores, taking its total to 1,181 outlets. As part of its 2018-2020 strategic plan, Pac 2000A Conad plans to invest €335 million towards new openings and the modernisation of its network.

The Conad del Tirreno cooperative reported revenues of €2.49 billion, achieved across a network of 342 stores.

Annual turnover at Conad Adriatico grew 7% to €1.08 billion, with the cooperative posting a profit of €12.5 million. Conad Adriatico has 261 members and 408 stores, and strengthened its market share by 0.8% to 13.52%. It is the leader in the Abruzzo (26.3%) and Molise (23%) regions.

In the period 2017-2020 Conad Adriatico plans to invest €115.4 million in its operations, of which €20 million has been allocated this year for 36 new store openings.

Conad Centro Nord saw a growth both in turnover to €1.3 billion (+5.3%) and profit, to €16.2 million.

At the end of 2017 the cooperative operated 240 points of sale, and is present in Emilia-Romagna (Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia) and in Lombardy. It plans to invest €51.5 million this year towards the opening of nine new outlets.

Sales at Nordiconad were up 1% to €1.63 billion, of which €921.4 million was recorded in the provinces of Modena, Bologna and Ferrara, where the retailer is present with 348 stores. In the same period, consolidated profit reached €29.6 million.

As well as Emilia Romagna, Nordiconad is also present in Lombardy, Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta, Liguria and Trentino-Alto Adige.

Commercianti Indipendenti Associati (Cia), which has 157 members, reported sales of €1.5 billion (+4.35%). The group's market share in its territory is 12.9%, up on 2016.

The cooperative is active in Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Veneto, and Friuli Venezia Giulia, where it boasts 222 stores. It has earmarked over €320 million for investments for new openings and refurbishment of its store estate, between now and the end of the decade.

The figures for the remaining two cooperatives, Conad Sicilia and DAO (distributor for Trentino-Alto Adige), were not made available for the same period.
