Conad Cooperatives Plan New Store Openings For 2018

Two of the eight regional cooperatives making up Italian supermarket chain Conad have announced plans to open some 58 new stores during 2018.

Conad Adriatico (covering the Abruzzo, Molise, Marche, Basilicata and Puglia regions) is planning 36 new openings, covering a surface area of over 34,000 square metres, for an investment of €20 million, reports La Repubblica.

The 2017-2020 strategic development plan anticipates an overall investment of €115.37 million, for both new openings and modernisation of the existing sales network.

At the end of 2017, the cooperative had 408 points of sale, covering an area of 251,541 square metres, 12 pharmacies, three forecourt stores, six opticians, as well as seven self-service stores.

Last year’s turnover amounted to €1.08 billion (+6.96% compared to the previous year) and a market share of 13.30%. Conad Adriatico was the market leader in Abruzzo (26.08%) and Molise (20.65%); while it had a 8.44% share in the Marche region, 7.59% in Basilicata and 8.44% in Puglia. (source: GNLC Nielsen).

Conad Centro Nord

Elsewhere, Conad Centro Nord (covers the Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy regions) has earmarked €190 million during 2018-2020 for 22 new store openings, 14 renovations and the modernisation of its sales network.

The cooperative ended 2017 with 240 points of sale with a retail area of 194,818 square metres, as well as 13 pharmacies, one forecourt store, and 2 opticians. The turnover amounted to €1.30 billion.
