Coop Denmark Announces Extension Of Online Shopping Service To Sundays

Coop Denmark has announced the extension of its online shopping service, Coop.dk MAD, to Sundays in most major Danish cities.

Thus far, only shoppers in Copenhagen have been able to avail of Sunday deliveries for online shopping, however the service has now been extended to Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg, among other locations.

"Currently, Monday is our biggest day for deliveries," said Morten Viktor, commercial director, Coop.dk MAD. "But the experience from Copenhagen shows that more and more people want the convenience of getting their goods on Sunday, so that the following week's purchases are in place at the beginning of the week."

New Service

Coop launched its online shopping service in 2016, with some 8,000 different SKUs made available, including some of the most popular items from its Irma banner. Since then, the group has extended its offering to include meal kits, recipe concepts, and a range of specific organic and vegetarian products.

Research from the Danish Internet Trade Association (FDIH) has shown that more Danes are now purchasing groceries online, with 8% saying they purchase food products online on w weekly basis.

This is up by 15% on the previous year. In addition, 35% of Danes say they plan to buy more products online in the future.

"We expect [online grocery sales] to grow much more over the coming years - as more people experience high quality in an simple way at a good price,"said Viktor.
