Coop Denmark Signs Cooperation Agreement With Pharmacy Group

Coop Denmark has signed a framework agreement with Apotekeren A.m.b.a. on the rollout of a number of pharmacy stores in its Kvickly store network.

The agreement, which has been hailed as the 'first of its kind between a pharmacy chain and a grocery chain', will see the pharmacy group operate special departments within Kvickly stores, of around 80 to 100 square metres in size, offering its range of healthcare services.

The first stores are expected to open within the next six months, followed by a further tranche of openings next year.

Making Life Easier

Commenting, Allan Kristoffersen, Kvickly chain director said that the agreement "makes everyday life a little easier for our customers, enabling them to manage their pharmacy purchases while buying groceries. In this way we utilise our space in a way that makes our department stores more attractive to trade in."

Apotekeren A.m.b.a. is a chain of 106 independent pharmacies, operating a total of 213 stores across Denmark.

Per Wijngaard, the group's chairman, said that it "will be exciting to see what cooperation may result from opportunities for both parties".
