Coop Italia Reports Sales Of €13 Billion In 2016

Italian retail cooperative Coop Italia has reported a marginal annual growth in sales of 0.2% to €13.1 billion for 2016.

If activities of subsidiaries in areas such as fuel sales, telecommunications, energy, DIY, and services are added, the total company turnover amounts to €14.5 billion.

There are also positive signs from the first months of 2017, with Coop Italia experiencing a 1.6% growth in sales, and performing better than the market average. The retailer confirmed its leadership position in the hypermarket and supermarket channels with an 18.7% market share.

Future Plans

Coop introduced many changes last year that will continue throughout 2017, such as strengthening its organic and healthier ranges and engaging in new promotional activities. A full review of Coop's private label range is also underway. The retailer is set to introduce new packaging, five new lines, and 200 new products.

The retailer has also expanded into the e-commerce sector. The EasyCoop online shopping service was recently launched in Rome, with over 10,000 assorted products, of which 3,000 are fresh.
