Coop Norway Launches Egg Range Sourced Exclusively From Outdoor Hens

Coop Norway has launched a new range of eggs sourced from hens that live outdoors, as part of the retailer’s ongoing sustainability efforts.

The ‘Ut’-branded eggs help improve animal welfare and give consumers greater freedom of choice, the retailer said.

Coop customers also have the choice of organic eggs, eggs from hens in ‘sustainable’ caged environments, and eggs from free-range chickens.

Knut Lutnæs, environmental manager at Coop Norway, praised the range as “a step on the road to full organic farming, which is Coop's main strategy.”

Price Positioning

The Ut eggs go on sale in Coop outlets at the start of October, and will be priced ‘slightly lower’ than other organic eggs in the retailer’s range.

“Coop is committed to good animal welfare and is systematically working for improvements based on facts and recommendations from specialist communities,” said Lutnæs.

“Norwegian agriculture in general, and poultry production in particular, maintains a very high standard of animal welfare and animal health, compared to most other countries.”
