Coop Sweden Appoints Magnus Johansson As New CEO

The board of Coop Sweden has appointed Magnus Johansson as the new CEO of the retail company, succeeding Sonat Burman-Olsson, who has been president and CEO since May 2014.

"We are very pleased with the recruitment of Magnus, who comes with long and solid experience from all aspects of retailing," said Tommy Ohlström, group chairman.

"Coop has undergone a very successful turn-around under the leadership of Sonat Burman-Olsson. Now the business is showing profitability and economic stability, and Coop is entering a new phase."

From 1 January 2018, the company will consist of the core business areas of purchasing and category, supply chain and logistics, market and online, and a number of business support functions, which will serve the entire Coop store network.

Previous Experience

Johansson has a long career in retail, including his previous position as CEO of Mekonomen. Before that he was head of purchasing and logistics at Coop, and spent ten years working in Lantmännen.

"I am very pleased to be given the task of continuing to build Coop and look forward to developing the business and putting together a strategy that creates the conditions for profitable growth," said Johansson.

He will assume the position of CEO effective immediately.
