More canned food products were sold in Norway in the past four weeks than in any month in the country's history, food company Orkla has told local media.

Speaking to ABC Nyheter, Orkla Norway's communications director Elisabeth Aandstad said that the business has seen canned goods sales double in the four-week period, as shoppers stock up amid coronavirus concerns.

"We have utilised all available canning production capacity and increased production by 50 per cent," she told the news portal.

Among the most popular products sold by the group in the past four weeks were Spaghetti à la Capri, Trondhjems Brun stew and Stabburet Picnic ham.

"Our factory employees are fully committed to ensuring that we can deliver products that people demand," she added.

Norway announced a lockdown on 12 March, with schools, gyms, restaurants, hairdressers and a range of other businesses forced to close, due to growing coronavirus concerns.
