Swedish Businesses Welcome Increase In Contactless Payment Limit

Svensk Handel, the group that represents the Swedish retail and wholesale trade, has welcomed the decision to increase the limit for contactless payments from SEK 200 (SEK 200) to SEK 400 (€36.43).

The increase has been put in place in response to the growing coronavirus scare, to ensure that more shoppers can make contact-free purchases in store.

Today, around 8% of purchases in-store are made using cards, and a rapidly growing share of these are made through contactless payments, Svensk Handel said.

Fast And Smooth

"Contactless parents are fast, smooth and appreciated by many customers. Swedish Trade welcomes this change," commented Bengt Nilervall, payment manager, Svensk Handel.

The increased limit on contactless payments comes into effect on 17 April, and Svensk Handel has recommended businesses to contact their card terminal supplier for more information and required updates.
