Spain's DIA Appoints New Chief Executive Of Argentina Operation

Spanish retailer DIA has appointed Martín Tolcachir as the new chief executive of its business in Argentina, in a move that will 'strengthen its operating model'.

Tolcachir previously worked for Carrefour and electrical goods firm Electrolux, working in a general management role at the latter before going on to lead the business in the Cono Sur region.

Customer Focus

On his appointment, Stephan DuCharme, DIA's executive chairman, said, "His experience, his knowledge of the Argentinian market, and his customer focus will be key in tackling the changes the business needs to make, with an emphasis on the local community. DIA is a key stakeholder in the local community, and one of the country’s leading food distributors."

DIA said that the move forms part of the 'transformation' of its commercial offering, which includes the appointment of local talent, promotion of fresh produce and own-brand products, and the modernisation of its store network.

Winning Formula

“I am convinced that DIA’s winning formulas have become even more important in today’s context," Tolcachir said of his new role. "Closeness, accessibility and practicality are attributes that today’s consumers in Argentina value more than ever, and serving them every day in a responsible way opens up new opportunities for us to grow.

"We will continue to push the transformation process in order to make the most of the opportunities we have, improve customer experience and therefore make DIA the preferred shop for people in Argentina."

He replaces Alejandro Grande in the role, who was previously managing DIA Argentina as well as running the group's HR department. From now on he will be in charge solely of HR, while continuing to be on the company’s management board, DIA said.
