Croatian 'Surplus Food Outlet' Opened To Combat Waste
Two Croatian entrepreneurs have opened the first 'surplus food outlet' in the country’s capital, Zagreb, offering factory surpluses at discounted prices.
Žabac, sells food, cleaning products and toiletries at prices that are discounted by between 50 to 90%. The products are purchased from different manufacturers and include well-known brands.
The initiative was launched with the goal of raising awareness of the consequences of food waste, as some 400,000 tonnes of food are thrown away in Croatia every year.
Besides factory surpluses, the store also sells products that have been damaged during production or whose packaging is not adequate, as well as goods before the expiration date.
