Czech Prime Minister Calls On Ahold Delhaize To Increase Wages

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka, has called on Ahold Delhaize to increase wages in its operations in the country, according to Barclays European Food Retail Equity Research, quoting Reuters.

The move follows an increase in the pay gap between workers in the Czech Republic and Western European economies.

Barclays noted that wages in the Czech Republic are still below half that of the EU average, which has led to many specialist workers emigrating from the country.

Ahold Delhaize employs around 17,500 people in the Czech Republic.

Ahold Delhaize has reportedly already promised pay increases will be implemented next year, however union bosses are looking for these to be implemented sooner.
