Delhaize Extends Commitment to Renewable Energy

Belgian supermarket group Delhaize has pledged to create 5.5 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy by next year, equating to the annual consumption of around 1,500 households, and reducing CO2 emissions by over 1,600 tonnes. Delhaize made the announcement following the visit of Flemish  minister-president Kris Peeters to its Zellik site.

Delhaize has around 8,000 square metres of solar panels installed at Zellik, a figure it expects to increase next year. Moreover, the chain also hopes to install solar panels on the roofs of its stores, where technically possible. (14 Sept)
