Delhaize Introduces Nutri-Score Food Label

Delhaize has become the first Belgian retailer to introduce the Nutri-Score food label on a range of  its own-brand products, the company said in a press release.

The label has been placed on some of the retailer's own cereal and yogurt brands.

The company aims to add the Nutri-Score label to all its own-brand products within two years.

Easy To Understand

The Nutri-Score system makes it easier to understand complex nutrient tables and compare products.

It is a five-letter and five-colour visual that summarises food nutrition information.

Each colour or letter reflects the nutritional constituents of the product, including fibre, protein, calories, saturated fatty acids, sugar and salt.

The introduction of Nutri-Score is in line with Delhaize’s ongoing efforts to improve the nutritional quality of its own-brand lineup.

Delhaize already reviews more than 1,500 own-brand items each year in a bid to lower sugar, fat and salt levels.

Recently, the company launched a new line of convenience fruit products with the aim of promoting a more balanced diet to its customers.
