Scrapping 'Display-Until' Labelling Mooted

WRAP, the UK body dedicated to sustainability in the FMCG sector, has argued that the world’s food waste could be reduced if the correct kinds of supply chain alterations were to be implemented.

Among these is the proposition that display-until labelling on packaging should be scrapped.

The group believes only use-by markers should be printed on packaging, as consumers should only be informed of the future point at which a food product will become unsafe (as opposed to past its supposed best).

WRAP’s director of sustainable food systems, Richard Swannel, said, "By implementing these simple recommendations, food manufacturers and retailers can make a big difference in the battle against food waste, without even having to change products and packaging."
