Bavaria Launches Cycling-Inspired Radler Beer

Dutch brewer Bavaria has launched two new cycling-inspired beers in the UK, Bavaria Radler Lemon and Bavaria Radler Grapefruit.

The new 'Radler' drinks are designed to be refreshing but contain a low alcohol level - just 2% ABV - with Bavaria Radler Lemon containing a mix of lager and sparkling lemonade and Bavaria Radler Grapefruit containing lager, lemonade and a twist of grapefruit.

"The concept of these light refreshing drinks has been around for almost a hundred years," said Mike Teague, managing director at Bavaria UK.

"The Germans first made this style of shandy popular in the 1920s, when cycling boomed and a drink was needed to offer refreshment; enough beer to make them crisp and dry, but not so much as to impair the ability of the cyclists to ride home again."
