The International Wine Challenge (IWC) Merchant Awards competition will be held for the first time in Spain this year.
According to RestauracionNews.com, submissions for the Wine Challenge Merchant Awards 2016 will be open until 31 May, and the award ceremony and gala will take place at the NH Collection Eurobuilding in Madrid on 21 June.
The IWC Merchant Awards Spain 2016 have been designed to reward the work of sommeliers, teachers, distributors, merchants, agents, promoters and vineyards.
The awards will honour commercial successes, business models, and other remarkable performances within the sector. They will also recognise outstanding marketing initiatives, promotions and packaging.
The jury will be comprised of professionals from a range of sectors related to the wine industry. The president of the judges will be Pedro Ballesteros (the only Spanish Master of Wine).
Personalities such as Sarah J. Evans MW (president of the Masters of Wine Institute) and César Román (Gault-Milau's Best Sommelier of Belgium 2015) will also be among the judges.
