Messe Düsseldorf Postpones ProWein Trade Fair

The ProWein trade fair, one of the largest international events for the wine industry, has been postponed, organisers Messe Düsseldorf have announced.

The organisers made the decision to postpone the show, which was originally scheduled for 15-17 March, based on current risk assessments on the spread of the coronavirus throughout Europe.

The 'ProWein goes city' event, which was to run concurrently with ProWein, has also been postponed.

In a statement, Messe Düsseldorf has said that it will 'promptly discuss an alternative date in order to guarantee planning can reliably proceed'.

"Our customers, partners and employees trust us," commented Werner M. Dornscheidt, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. "They can also have this trust in us when we make decisions about critical situations in the interests of their safety".

Elsewhere, Thomas Geisel, Düsseldorf Lord Mayor, added that the decision to postpone ProWein was "not an easy one for all concerned. [...] But the postponement at the present time is necessary for Messe Düsseldorf and its customers in view of the increasingly dynamic developments.”
