Nestlé's Mucilon To Support Reforestation In Brazil

Mucilon, Nestlé's leading infant cereal brand in Brazil, has launched a new initiative to support a reforestation programme by the food giant, which aims to plant one million trees.

The 'Mucilon: Taking Care of the Planet for Your Children’ initiative will see the cereal brand offering families the opportunity to dedicate a tree to a child.

Each family will receive a personalised tree number as a part of the initiative.

'A Mobilising Force'

Marcelo Melchior, CEO of Nestlé Brazil, said, "We want to act as a mobilising force, a force for good that helps build a future which is better for everyone and, in particular, for our children.”

Nestlé aims to plant around 500,000 seedlings in the Atlantic Forest in Brazil in 2020 alone.

The reforestation programme aims to contribute to the expansion of the forest's green area, which includes approximately 1,200 hectares of replanted forest.

It also seeks to restore more than 100 varieties of trees, including some endangered species.

The programme, organised in partnership with the international institution, One Tree Planted, will coordinate with Brazilian NGOs Natureza Bela, Arboretum Program and OCT - Land Conservation Organization of Southern Bahia Lowlands, Nestlé added.

Recyclable Packaging

Mucilon has also moved to 100% recyclable packaging to make its operations more sustainable.

The brand has moved to mono-material from multilayer packaging for its sachet line.

This initiative will help Nestlé to remove around 300 tonnes of plastic annually from its operations.
