Sales Of Prosecco To Rise In UK At Expense Of Other Bubbles

Following the market trend in Germany and Scandinavia, consumption of prosecco in the UK is set to snowball at the expense of lower-end champagne, as well as non-sparkling rosé.

Research conducted by the International Wine and Spirits Research Magazine and wine-exhibition body Vinexpo, as reported by TheDrinksBusiness.com, predicts that prosecco consumption  in the UK will grow 17% by 2020 (an increase of about 8.3 million cases).

According to Vinexpo CEO Guillaume Deglise, this will, in the case of Britain specifically, see the Italian sparkling wine “taking over from discounted champagne."

Moreover, sales of non-sparkling rosé will also be affected by the burgeoning popularity of prosecco among UK shoppers, with a 4.4% dip forecast by 2020– a figure all the more pronounced, given that global consumption of the drink is set to go up by 6% over the period.
