Tesco Wine Community To Shut Down

The Tesco Wine Community, which acts as an organisational instrument for Tesco wine fairs and in-store tastings, as well as a channel through which Tesco customers can avail of special offers on wine, will be discontinued on 28 August 2015, TheGuardian.com reports.

The decision is part of Tesco CEO Dave Lewis’s larger-scale project of streamlining product lines.

Most notably, Tesco’s wine offering has suffered from the growth of Lidl’s wine division, which has experienced a remarkable 40-per-cent sales increase in the last year. The Tesco Wine Community, launched in 2011, also acts as an online forum.

Tesco said, “We have taken the decision to close our Wine Community website. We know the site has proved really informative for some customers, but we will now focus on providing information on our award-winning wine range in store and on our Tesco.com website.”
