UK House Of Lords To Debate Whether Alcohol Law Should Be Changed

The UK House of Lords will invite representatives from retailers Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado next Tuesday (22 November) to debate whether the law on alcohol sales should be changed.

Specifically, the House of Lords Licensing Act 2003 Committee will examine the areas of ‘ pre-loading, super-strength alcohol, and online ordering’, a press release stated.

Other topics to be covered include the implementation of a minimum unit price for alcohol, and whether the UK has become a ‘home-drinking nation’.

Set to appear before the Committee are Nick Grant, Head of Legal Services, Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd, James Brodhurst-Brown, Manager, Regulatory Affairs and Trading Law, Waitrose, and Mark Bentley, Customer Operations Director, Ocado.

Also giving evidence to the committee will be representatives from the Working Men’s Club and Institute Union, the Association of London Clubs and Emms Gilmore Liberson Solicitors.
