Dunnes Stores Eyes Exit From British Market

Irish retailer Dunnes Stores has effectively pulled out of the British market, after closing all of its Scottish stores, and nearly all of its English branches in recent months.

The Sunday Independent reports that the food, clothing and home retailer shut its second last store in England on Saturday, leaving only one outlet remaining in Northampton.

Less than three years ago, Dunnes had five stores in operation in Scotland, and six in northern England, however, reports suggest that the potential cost of Brexit has driven the decision to exit this market.

Dunnes Stores is currently the top supermarket in Ireland, with 23.1% market share, according to the latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel.
